Lake Myra Elementary PTA Minutes from April 1, 2009 Lake Myra had its first PTA meeting. This meeting was to organize and set up the by-laws of the Lake Myra Elementary School. We had a great turn out and everyone was excited about the new school. Thank you to everyone for coming out. We hope to have a great first year and plan on many great years to come. This is an overview of what went on at the meeting: Cindy Smith with North Carolina PTA came to help set up the by-laws. The highlights of the by-laws are: *The purpose of the PTA is about doing what is best for the kids, parents and school. It is not set up to be about clubs and fundraising. Not that we won’t be doing any fundraising, it’s just not our main goal. *The membership fees will be $6 per member. The membership is good for the school year. *$2.75 of the fee will go to the National and State PTA organizations. The rest will go towards the PTA. *There will be General Membership meetings in July, November, and April. *Terms for any executive and chairman are one year. An officer can only serve two consecutive terms in the same office. *The executive board was nominated and voted on. -President-Joni Bailey-currently the PTA president at Knightdale elementary and very active in previous years PTA’s. -Vice President-Felicia Woodard-First time being involved in PTA and wants to be very active. -Treasurer-Greta McCarver-First time being involved in PTA and looking forward to the new school. -Secretary-Stacy Johnson-currently the secretary at Knightdale elementary. At the Parent information meeting that is being held on May 4th, memberships will be sold that evening. Please come out and join the PTA. There are a lot ways to help the students through out the year even if you can’t come to meetings and help at events. Knightdale Elementary school is waiting on a vote to pass to donate money to Lake Myra’s Pta. Knightdale elementary is having a spring fundraiser and hoping to donate the funds raised from that fundraiser. Sabrena Lynn has volunteered to be Chairman of the communications committee. Celia Lorenzana has volunteered to be Chairman of the fundraising committee. Jackie and Julie (sorry I didn’t get your last names) have volunteered to co-chair the painless fundraising committee. For example, Box Tops, Campbells Soup labels, Target cards and Food Lions cards. There will be other openings for chairpersons and volunteers. We hope to make Lake Myra a great school and can’t do it without your support. Thank you, Stacy Johnson Secretary of Lake Myra PTA
