Lake Myra Elementary School PTA Meeting Minutes August 6, 2009 Call to order: 5:14 Attendance: Jim Argent, Felicia Woodard, Joni Bailey, Stacy Johnson, Angie Dutton, Julie Gorlesky There was no budget report but nothing has changed since the membership approved the budget at the Open house for track 1. There will be a Literacy night coming up soon. The PTA was thinking about doing a book swap with the kids. Students can bring in their old books to donate, we would arrange them by levels and then the kids can come back and get books that are new to them. We will have more information to follow. There will an Open House for Tracks 3 & 4 on August 25th. We will present the budget again and sell memberships. We will have a Holiday Shop on Nov. 23, 24, & 25. At Knightdale Elementary, last year we had tables set up in the library with items that the kids could buy for their families and friends. Items range from .25-$15. It is a lot of fun for the kids to pick stuff out themselves. The PTA will provide some sort of snack during Teacher luncheons. These take place on Wednesdays during early release. We are going to ask Las Brazas Mexican if they would be willing to donate any chips and salsa for this Wednesday’s meeting. Cultural Arts-Some members of the PTA are attending a Cultural Arts workshop. By attending this, the school can qualify for up to 4 grants to use for performances, guests speakers or other events. We are trying to set it up for 2 events in the spring. Celia is working on the Painless fundraisers. Those include Campbell’s Soup labels, Box Top for Education, and Going Green Recycling program. She will be sending out a flier with all of the information for these programs. There will be some sort of year long contest for the students. I believe the class with the most items turned in per grade will get a pizza party or something along those lines. I just found out a new program from Capri Sun. We can collect the used pouches and turn them in for .02 each. I will give the information to Celia and see if that is something she wants to include. There will be a book fair from 8/31-9/4 during school hours and will be open during 9/3 for the literacy night. We would love some volunteers to help come in with the students. Please contact Joni Bailey if you can help. We are starting to get the Fun Run organized. We are looking at getting some prizes for students who turn in the most money. Possibilities are tickets to the zoo, the aquarium or some other items. We will also be looking at some corporate sponsors to be put on the back of the t-shirts. Companies who donate $100 or more will have their names on the backs. We are hoping to use that money to help off set the cost of the t shirts.
