Lake Myra Elementary School PTA Meeting Minutes Thursday, Sept. 10, 2009 Call to order: 5:06 Attendance: Jim Argent, Felicia Woodard, Joni Bailey, Stacy Johnson, Chris Barrow, Allison Jones, Shante Coleman Greta McCarver is donating her gas grill to the school. That item was on Mr. Argent’s wish list. Thank you so much. The Scholastic Book Fair was a great success. We raised $1126.88 from everyone’s purchases. Thank you everyone for helping out and buying books. We may have another one in the spring. The class with the most class participation was a tie between Mr. Pattison and Mrs. Jones. Both classes will get to have lunch with Swimmy in their classroom. Swimmy will bring something sweet to eat too. Lake Myra Elementary School will hold a McTeacher night at McDonalds in Wendell on Tuesday, September 29th. I think the times will be from 5-8pm. This is a great opportunity to come see your teachers work at McDonalds. Ronald McDonald will be there. Maybe Swimmy can come eat dinner too. Shante Coleman has agreed to be the Cultural Arts Chairperson. (Yeah!!) In December, the Raleigh Symphony will come to the school and play holiday and seasonal music from around the world. Track 1 will be out for this event but we will try and schedule another event for Track 1 around Cinco De Mayo. On Feb. 15th, The Magic of African Rhythm will perform for all 3 tracks. Shante is going to get in contact with East Wake Middle school about their performing arts perform for grades 3-5. Swimmy’s Fun Run will be held on Nov. 12th. Each student is asked to raise money based on how many times they can run/walk around the track or flat fee. The money will be going towards the purchase of some awnings for the playground to provide much needed shade. We hope that each student can raise at least $25. If every student raised that amount, we would reach our school goal of $10,000. Please keep in mind this is our only fundraiser for this school year. We will not have any door to door sales of any kind. The pta has been contacting local businesses to help offset the cost of the fun run and t-shirts. If you or anyone you know would like to donate either money or a product, please contact clorenzanna@nc.rr.com. Silver donations of products/services will receive company name on a banner that will be displayed at the Fun Run, in the newsletter and Total Connection. Gold Level donations will receive in addition to the Silver level plus have the company name on the back of over 500+ school t-shirts. Platinum donations of $250 or more include having their name on a permanent plaque that will be hung in the front office plus the Gold and Silver benefits. All students participating will receive a t-shirt and a $10 gift card to Dick’s Sports. There will be different prizes awarded to students for various levels of fund raising. We will also love any volunteers that day. We will need parents to help put bands on student’s wrists as they make a lap, help with the snack/drink table, someone to play music, and sponsorship donations. Any help will greatly be appreciated even if for only 1 hour. There will be a Literacy night coming up soon. The PTA was thinking about doing a book swap with the kids. Students can bring in their old books to donate, we would arrange them by levels and then the kids can come back and get books that are new to them. We will have more information to follow. We will have a Holiday Shop on Wed., Nov. 18th through Tuesday, Nov. 24th. The Holiday shop is where kids could buy holiday gifts for their families and friends. Items range from .25-$15. It is a lot of fun for the kids to pick stuff out themselves. We will need volunteers to come help the students shop and run the register. Meeting adjourned: 6:30 The next PTA meeting is 10/01/2009 at 5:00. Minutes take by Stacy Johnson
